A framework for formulating and implementing non-associative plasticity models for shell buckling computations

In modelling the behavior of thick-walled metal shells under compressive loads, use J2 flow theory can lead to unrealistic buckling estimates, while alternative ‘corner’ models, despite offering good predictions, have not been widely adopted for structural computations due their complexity. The present work develops a new and efficient plasticity model predicting response compressed shells. It combines simplicity Von Mises yield surface, with non-associative rule, mimicking effect surface corner. This allows tracing equilibrium path loaded shell identifying consistently instability, employing single constitutive model. A robust backward-Euler integration scheme, suitable both three-dimensional (solid) elements is developed, along corresponding consistent algorithmic moduli nonlinear isotropic hardening materials, accounting rigorously dependence plastic straining on direction strain increments. implemented in ABAQUS as user material subroutine. Simulations cylinders compression predict instability agreement experimental data.
